Professor Dr M Ali Akbar, Director of the BAU Interdisciplinary Centre for Food Security (ICF), has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Agriculture University (BAU). Honourable President of the country and Chancellor of the university H.E. Abdul Hamid appointed him for the next four years. The Ministry of Education issued an order in this regard on 24 May 2015. Dr Akbar is a Professor of Animal Nutrition of this university.
He was born on March 10 in 1952 and is the son of Md Alauddin Munshi and Sarah Khatun. He is from village Sheolia Bari of Bogra district.
Prof Akbar did his BSc and MSc degree from BAU Faculty of Animal Husbandry in 1975 and 1977. Later, he joined as a lecturer in the Department of Animal Nutrition in 1977. Dr Akbar obtained his PhD from University of Aberdeen, UK in 1993 and later did his post-doctoral research from the same university.
Dr Akbar has many scientific publications in national and international reputed journals and has lead many research projects on Animal Nutrition funded by national and international agencies.
Previously he has served as acting vice-chancellor of BAU from March 14 to March 25 in 2010. He was also Dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, BAU syndicate member, Convener of BAU Dean Council and Head of the Department of Animal Nutrition for three terms. During his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor Prof Akbar was serving as the Director of Interdisciplinary Centre for Food Security under BAU since June 2014.
