Honorable Senior Policy Advisor at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr Wijnand Van IJssel visits BAU Interdisciplinary Centre for Food Security
[BAU; 21 April 2014] Senior Policy Advisor at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr Wijnand Van IJssel visited Interdisciplinary Centre for Food Security (ICF) at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) at Mymensingh, Bangladesh on 20 April, 2014. Mr IJssel was accompanied by Dr Jan Willem Nibbering, First Secretary (Food Security) of Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Dhaka. In this occasion, a meeting was held at ICF, BAU which was presided over by Professor Dr Md Abul Khair Chowdhury, Director, ICF. Honorable Vice-Chancellor of BAU Professor Dr Md Rafiqul Hoque was present as the chief guest. All the Adjunct Faculty Members of ICF attended the meeting. Professor Dr Harunur Rashid, Coordinator of the Netherlands supported NICHE project described the project activities and ongoing activities of the centre. Professor Dr Muhammad Salim, Adjunct Faculty of ICF presented about academic and research achievements of BAU. Professor Dr Lutful Hasan, Director of BAURES described on the BAU Research Progress and Research Systems. After the program Mr IJssel and Dr Nibbering visited several laboratories and research fields at BAU including ICF, BAU central laboratory, Microbiology laboratory, Agricultural chemistry laboratory, Aquaponics Research, Carbon Flux Monitoring research field, AI Centre, Fish Museum & Fisheries Field Lab, BAU Germplasm Centre, Methane Emission Research under Department of Soil Science. Mr Van IJssel was very much impressed to see the activities of ICF and research activities of BAU and hoped that BAU will be contributing more and more towards food security of the country. He also has expressed his interests on collaboration with Dutch Institutes with BAU and support from his government in the future.
